Postcards from the Edge

of Bangladesh

Baisabi festival here I come…

I got permission today from VSO to travel down to Rangamati for the Bangla New Year festivities (called Baisabi by the indigenous people).

I’m still a bit sketchy on the logistics, as I need specific local government permission to travel into the Chittagong Hill Tracts as a foreigner (more on that another day, it’s basically a militarized zone down there).  So I’ve passed on copies of my passport to my NGO who should hopefully be arranging it all. How I’m going to get down there is another question, as it’s kind of like trying to book a train ticket for Christmas eve in England two days in advance. It’s a big festival out here, and a lot of people travel down to the Hill Tracts.

Anyway, what will be, will be. Hopefully this time it will be.
